Donkey Raffle
Joe bought a donkey from an old farmer for $100. The farmer agreed to deliver the donkey the next day. But the following day, the farmer drove up and said, “I’m sorry, but I have some bad news. The donkey died last night.”
Joe says, “okay, just give me my money back then.”
“I can’t do that. I spent it already.”
“Ok, then just unload the donkey.”
“What are you gonna do with him?”
“I’m gonna raffle him off.”
“You can’t raffle a dead donkey!”
“That’s where you’re wrong.”
A month later, the farmer ran into Joe and asked, “so, what happened with the dead donkey?”
Joe answered, “I raffled the donkey off. I sold 500 tickets at $2 each and made $998.”
“Didn’t anybody complain?”
“Just the guy who won. So I gave him his $2 back.”
